Youth Work Conference 2024

On Saturday 16th November 2024 10am - 5pm at North West Community Campus in Dumfries, the Working at the Coalface Conference will take place.

Working at the Coalface is a conference for youth work practitioners inc. adult volunteers in Dumfries and Galloway. The development day is focussed on delivering training asked for by the sector and to provide the opportunity for networking and collaboration. 

The keynote speaker for the event is Scottish Writer, Graeme Armstrong 

Graeme Armstrong is a Scottish writer from Airdrie. His teenage years were spent within North Lanarkshire's gang culture.  Alongside overcoming his own struggles with drug addiction, alcohol abuse and violence, he defied expectation to read English as an undergraduate at the University of Stirling; where, after graduating with honours, he returned to study a Masters' in Creative Writing.

His debut novel, The Young Team is inspired by his experiences

'My work is lived experience plus research - using storytelling from my journey and a current focus to explore the big themes of street violence, substance abuse and masculinity and share some inspirational examples of best practice'

This form is for youth work practitioners and volunteers to register their interest in attending, and for organisations who wish to have a stall for the marketplace that will run over the lunch break.
